Sioux Falls employers continue to face workforce shortages, while a growing number of international students and professionals already living in our community are seeking opportunities to contribute to the local workforce. Many employers, however, are uncertain about employment-based visas, associated costs, timelines, and employer responsibilities.
This workshop will provide a practical, non-technical overview of the most common pathways available to employers who want to hire and retain international talent. The session will focus on current students, recent graduates, and employees who may require sponsorship, including Optional Practical Training (OPT), STEM OPT, and H-1B visas.
Participants will gain a clear understanding of:
- How employers can engage international students and graduates already in the region.
- The differences between OPT, STEM OPT, and H-1B pathways.
- Typical timelines, costs, and employer responsibilities.
- Common misconceptions and realities of sponsoring international talent.
- Actionable next steps and resources available to employers.
