Ron Wirtz from the Minneapolis Fed would like to hear from Sioux Falls businesses about current economic conditions in the region and state. Wirtz heads a small team at the Minneapolis Fed that does research on real-time business conditions, and their work advises Bank President Neel Kashkari going into Federal Open Market Committee meetings, where the Fed sets interest rates and other monetary policy. Pres. Kashkari is also a voting member this year on FOMC. Much of the work of Ron’s team involves outreach to businesses across the District, which includes South Dakota. Ron will be in town on Tuesday morning, Sept. 22, and will provide a short economic briefing for attendees, after which he will facilitate a roundtable discussion about how businesses are faring in the current economy, the opportunities and challenges in current operations, and the outlook going forward.
