For more than 137 years, Montgomery’s has been a trusted name in home furnishings, serving generations of customers across South Dakota. Founded in 1888 by George H. Montgomery in Alexandria, South Dakota—one year before the state itself was established—Montgomery’s has remained a family-owned business dedicated to quality, integrity and exceptional service.

A Rich History Rooted in Excellence

What began as Montgomery’s Furniture and Funeral has evolved into a premier destination for home interiors. In 1997, Clark and Connie Sinclair, fourth-generation owners, established the Sioux Falls location at 1725 West 41st Street. Today, the company is proudly operated by both fourth and fifth-generation owners, with Eric and Neala Sinclair continuing the family’s commitment to excellence.

The Whole Home Experience

Montgomery’s is more than a furniture store—it’s a one-stop destination for homeowners seeking high-quality furniture, flooring, mattresses, lighting, window treatments and home décor. With a mission to create beautiful homes and happy customers, Montgomery’s provides complimentary interior design services, ensuring every shopper receives expert guidance to craft a cohesive and stylish living space. From free interior design services to a range of price points, Montgomery’s is committed to making the design process easy and enjoyable. Their dedication to excellent service extends beyond the initial sale, providing ongoing support to ensure customer satisfaction for years to come.

Community Commitment

Deeply invested in the communities they serve, Montgomery’s operates not only in Sioux Falls but also in Madison, Watertown and Aberdeen. The Sinclair family actively participates in community development, with Clark Sinclair serving on six boards for Avera and Eric Sinclair contributing to the Lake Area Development Corporation and the South Dakota Retailers Board. In 2024, Montgomery’s partnered with the Abbott House as they moved to Sioux Falls, to provide furniture and mattresses to their boys and girls homes.

Exciting Growth and Recognition

December 2024 marked a significant milestone for Montgomery’s, as the company announced the acquisition of the former Conlin’s Furniture location. This expansion will enhance their 41st Street presence, with renovations set to be completed in 2025. Additionally, Montgomery’s continues to engage with the local community through events like the Sioux Empire Home Show.

The Sinclair family’s dedication to their business and community has not gone unnoticed. This past spring, they were honored with the Prairie Family Business Association’s Heritage Award, recognizing businesses with a history of 75 years or more.

As Montgomery’s looks to the future, their commitment to quality, customer satisfaction and community involvement remains unwavering. Whether you’re looking for furniture, flooring or expert design services, Montgomery’s is the trusted name to turn to for transforming your house into a home.
