Local Programs Help Interns Connect to Sioux Falls

As summer internships get underway, local employers have an opportunity to help interns do more than gain workplace experience. Two Sioux Falls programs are designed to help interns build relationships, learn about the community and see the city as a place to begin their careers after graduation.

The Sioux Falls Young Professionals Network (YPN) offers free membership for interns, giving them access to events and programs throughout the summer. YPN gives interns a chance to get out of the office, engage with the city and meet other young professionals. Interns can also attend leadership and development programs where they can learn from experienced community leaders, as well as civic engagement events that help them understand what is happening in the community where they are working.

Getting interns connected with YPN is easy. Intro Sioux Falls, set for July 9 at Great Shots, is a good starting point. The event is designed for interns and individuals who are new to the area, offering an opportunity to build connections and learn more about the community. Employers interested in connecting interns with YPN can contact YPN Manager Jaci Pieters at jpieters@siouxfalls.com.

Interns can also get involved through Intern Sioux Falls, a summer program coordinated by the Sioux Falls Development Foundation. The program includes six events exclusively for interns and is intended to help participants meet peers, explore the city and consider Sioux Falls as a place to live and work after graduation.

This year’s Intern Sioux Falls events include a welcome lunch, service project luncheon, Downtown food tour, LinkedIn training with professional headshots, beanbag tournament and end-of-summer networking event. All events require pre-registration. For more information about Intern Sioux Falls, contact Leah Friese at leahf@siouxfalls.com.
