Stein Sign Display: A Legacy of Innovation and Community

The Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce is proud to present our Promoter Members, businesses that seek to connect to the business community in meaningful ways. These enthusiastic advocates for Sioux Falls are committed to championing local business and fostering a dynamic, prosperous region. By showcasing Promoter Members, the Chamber celebrates their valuable role in promoting the region as a thriving place to live, work and invest.

Since 1952, Stein Sign Display has been lighting up South Dakota’s business landscape—literally and figuratively. What began as Hi-Way Sign Company, founded by Clint Stein, has grown into a multi-generational family business that’s synonymous with quality, creativity and community spirit. Today, under the leadership of Stuart Stein, the company continues to honor its roots while embracing new technology and expanding its reach across the region.

Family Values, Forward Vision

For the Stein family, signage is more than a business, it’s a legacy. Stuart Stein, now the third-generation owner, shares, “To have an opportunity to extend the legacy of the family business is quite an honor. My wife and I have four kids, and I’d love to give them the opportunity to continue with the business into the 4th generation.” This commitment to family and community is reflected in every project and partnership.

Comprehensive Signage Solutions

Stein Sign Display offers a full spectrum of signage services. From illuminated and non-illuminated signs to message centers, gas pricers and custom finishes, their expertise covers both interior and exterior needs. Their billboard portfolio—nearly 300 faces statewide—gives regional advertisers a powerful platform to reinforce branding and drive campaigns. The company also provides sign repair and LED conversions, ensuring businesses stay visible and energy-efficient.

Milestones and Impact

A major highlight for Stein Sign Display was its expansion to Sioux Falls, a move that quickly proved successful. The company’s strategic placement of digital billboards in major South Dakota cities gives clients a competitive edge. ESCO Manufacturing, also part of the Stein family, ships signs nationwide and has produced signage for iconic venues like Madison Square Garden and MetLife Stadium. The company’s partnership with Daktronics further cements its reputation for excellence.

People Make the Difference

Stein Sign Display’s team is its greatest asset. “When I started with the company in 2020, we had 93 employees. Through Covid, we did not lay off a single employee. Today we are at 130,” says Stuart Stein. The team blends decades of experience with fresh ideas, united by a passion for #LivingTheVision. Even the very first employee hired by Clint Stein is still fabricating signs today—a testament to the company’s loyalty and culture.

Community Commitment

Community involvement is central to Stein Sign Display’s mission. The company actively supports Sioux Falls, Watertown and Webster, encouraging employees to volunteer and serve on local boards. Stuart Stein serves in leadership roles within the World Sign Association and the International Sign Association, helping shape the future of the industry. In 2024, Stein Sign Display was honored as the SBA Family Business of the Year for South Dakota—a recognition of its enduring values and impact.

Looking Ahead

Stein Sign Display continues to innovate, adding new signage to its Sioux Falls property to showcase the variety of options available to customers. Their vision statement—“Creating wow experiences for our team members, customers and communities”—guides every interaction. Whether you’re a new business or an established brand, Stein Sign Display is ready to help you stand out.
