Message from the Chair

I was born and raised in Sioux Falls and love this incredible city! When I reflect on the changes I’ve witnessed in my lifetime, it really is staggering to see the growth of this city. Anyone who has lived here for even five years can see the transformation. In that time alone, Sioux Falls has grown by approximately 27,000 people. When I was a kid in the 60s and 70s, the city had a population of just 60,000 to 70,000 and was economically centered around John Morrell (now Smithfield).

Today, Sioux Falls is home to over 219,000 residents and has evolved into a dynamic, multi-dimensional city. Our economy is thriving, with a strong presence in healthcare, finance and entrepreneurship. It’s a city that attracts young professionals eager to chase their dreams. Downtown Sioux Falls is more vibrant than ever! The continuous growth brings exciting opportunities for businesses and homebuilders alike. Our outstanding public and private schools make Sioux Falls an attractive place for young families to settle and grow.

So, what’s the secret sauce? It starts with the people. Sioux Falls has incredibly generous citizens and a business community committed to reinvesting in the city’s future. It has strong leadership both in the public and private sectors determined to make things happen here. In key industries like healthcare and banking, competition is fierce, yet these sectors work together to make Sioux Falls an even better place to live and work.

Recently, we lost an incredible leader, giver and friend in Craig Lloyd. His legacy of community investment leaves us with an important question: Who will step up next? Who will carry on the work of leaders like Craig to ensure Sioux Falls continues to thrive for future generations? To be honest, it is not one person or organization. If we want this city to continue its amazing success, it takes all of us to ensure future success. We cannot expect our neighbor to step up if we are unwilling. We need you and the entire community to be there for the city’s future, our children and our grandchildren!

In this issue, you’ll read more about Sioux Falls Tomorrow 4, which will build on our city’s past successes and propel us into a new era of growth. I encourage you to get involved and keep pushin’ on to make Sioux Falls an even better place for our children and grandchildren.
