Sustainability & Climate Action Plan
Public input period extended
In Sioux Falls, we work together and with a One Sioux Falls focus.
On March 1, the City of Sioux Falls released the DRAFT Sustainability and Climate Action Plan (Plan) for public comment through Monday, March 21, 2022. Sioux Falls is a regional leader in water conservation, waste reduction and energy efficiency. This Plan aims to build upon our strong foundation. It has been in development for 18 months, generating good discussion and engagement from the public.
During the recent public comment period, the City received an extensive amount of additional feedback on the DRAFT Plan. Based on the thoughtful and instructive input, and since this Plan intersects with a variety of businesses and industries across our community, the City recognizes the need to ask more questions and reach out to a wider group of stakeholders to capture their input. The City will accomplish this by broadening the stakeholder group and engaging more residents and commercial businesses, including the natural gas and electric utilities, home builders, automotive, trucking, construction industries, and other interested parties.
Over the next year, the City will work with the resources and experts of this this broader stakeholder group to find commonalities and set achievable goals that have a beneficial rate of return. The City intends to revise the initial Plan and bring it to the City Council in 2023.
The Chamber appreciates the City’s approach and will remain engaged as we work together for a more sustainable Sioux Falls.
